Some Family History

John Freeman Jeffords and Rose Cordell Jeffords raised five children in Nebraska during the last couple of decades of the 19th Century and the first decade of the 20th Century.

Jack, Bob, Don and Chuck are grandsons of the oldest, Clyde, who married Anne Maxwell, daughter of Samuel Maxwell, a Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court and U.S. Congressman. Clyde and Anne settled in New York and had three children, John Maxwell, Raymond Cordell, and Margaret Crosbie. Clyde, who had a PhD from Cornell University, taught latin in the New York City school system.

Floyd, the second son, married Anna Smolik, settled in Minnesota and had two sons, Floyd Jr. and Donald.

Max, the third son, married Lucy Grow, settled in Washington state, and had a daughter, Marguerite, and a son, Oliver. Max became a clergyman and postmaster.

Rex, the fourth son, married Christina Elizabeth Dysart, settled in California, by way of Washington state,and had three children, Dave, Donald and Joan.

Nell, the baby of the family and only daughter, married Ziba Jones and stayed in Nebraska. Nell had three children, Dick, Robert and Margaret.
